Thanks for your comment. When I have time, I'll look into the earlier instruments more closely, though that's not where my primary interest lies.Tinney Heathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18383946402836289511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025295042007800999.post-42595217715445229372014-06-11T15:43:36.283-07:002014-06-11T15:43:36.283-07:00I am not sure if your sentence "These early i...I am not sure if your sentence "These early instruments did not have a keyboard" applies to medieval instruments only or Greco-Roman instruments.

The Greco-Roman hydraulis, and subsequent bellows organs from the antiquity did have keyboards. They are described by Hero of Alexandria and Vitruvius.

Only in the Middle Ages did proper keyboard disappear for a while and got replaced with much simpler sliders. So the technology went back for a while.Erik Bruchezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16139421434415219182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025295042007800999.post-60613293740264120342013-11-04T06:27:13.428-08:002013-11-04T06:27:13.428-08:00Hi, Lyn. You can buy a kit from the Early Music Shop in England http://www.earlymusicshop.com/product.aspx/en-GB/1000334-ems-1ft-portative-organ but it is pretty pricey, and not that easy to assemble. As for just achieving the appearance of one, I'm afraid I lack the artistic skills to help you there. Sounds like a great project - good luck!Tinney Heathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18383946402836289511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025295042007800999.post-17377847490017602002013-11-03T16:38:06.776-08:002013-11-03T16:38:06.776-08:00Hi there! I would love to try and replicate a portative organ (rather then the over used viola/violin). Would anyone have any suggestions on how I might go about this?

Thank you in advance,

Lyn
A not very crafty mom in Omaha, but definitely an "out of the box" mom in Omaha.Omahabirdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06498826235377408283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025295042007800999.post-83349180831958537272013-05-24T08:16:35.924-07:002013-05-24T08:16:35.924-07:00Hi, Roy.
